Success and Accomplishment Builds the Right Environment
Start by recognizing people in front of their contemporaries for their good work. The golden rule of supervision is praise in public, criticize in private.
Next, celebrate successes.
Years ago, I worked for a company nearing bankruptcy. Our paychecks were in the form of cashier’s checks for months. Layoffs were common; rumors that the place was closing the doors ran rampant. Yet, in all this turmoil, the owner tossed a pizza party to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution. He may have done many things wrong, but he did try to celebrate success.
The third step and final step is to develop a 12-month “Company Calendar” with all the important dates on it.
This might include holidays, major trade shows, customer visits, trips planned and so forth. If you show employees all the important times for the year, it will help improve communication, planning, and scheduling for the appropriate times for vacation.
The ball is in your court to make your employees better. By investing in your employees, you can increase productivity, improve communication, decrease turnover, and have a more engaged workforce that will help you achieve your goals.
